The importance of sales funnels

A typical sales funnel will have three stages: awareness, consideration, and purchase (for more information see buyers' journey). In the awareness stage, you are trying to introduce your product or service to potential customers. In the consideration stage, you are trying to get potential customers to consider your product or service as an option. And in the purchase stage, you are trying to get potential customers to purchase your product or service.

What are the 3 Buyer Stages of a funnel?

The three buyer stages of a funnel are awareness, consideration, and decision. To target customers at each stage, you must create different content and messaging that resonates with them.

What Are The Four Key Elements In a Sales Funnel?

What are the 4 key elements in a funnel?

When it comes to sales funnels, four key elements can make them more effective:

1. The offer: This is the first and most important element of any funnel. Your offer needs to be compelling and attractive to potential customers, otherwise, they won’t even bother to learn more about your product or service.

2. The landing page: This is where you’ll direct potential customers once they’ve clicked on your offer. The landing page needs to be well-designed and persuasive, and it should quickly and easily explain what the customer can expect from your product or service. This is where you generate leads and capture their details for email marketing.

3. The sales process: This is the part of the funnel where you close the sale. Your sales process should be smooth and efficient, and it should be designed to convert as many leads as possible into paying customers.

4. The follow-up process: This is the final step in the funnel, and it’s essential for ensuring that customers are satisfied with your product or service. The follow-up process should include after-sales support, customer service, and anything else that’s necessary to ensure a positive customer experience.

7 Step Sales Funnel Template

The 7-step sales funnel template

There are many different types of sales funnels, but the 7-step funnel is one of the most commonly used to describe the workflow and sales process.

It's a simple, yet effective way to move potential customers through your sales process and increase your chances of making a sale. This is important if you don't have marketing and sales teams and have to do this yourself. These sales funnel stages will help you to address the pipeline of leads and engage with them in a way that naturally keeps them flowing through the sales pipeline on the buying journey toward the checkout page.

The 7 steps are:

Prospecting: Finding potential customers

When it comes to finding customers for your business, you need to cast a wide net. This means using a variety of traffic sources to bring in leads.

One great way to find prospective customers is through paid traffic. By targeting specific demographics or interests with online ads, you can bring in leads that are likely to be interested in what you have to offer. Paid traffic can be expensive, but it can also be very effective.

A great way to find leads is through organic traffic. By optimizing your website for search engines and creating valuable content, you can bring in leads that are already interested in what you have to offer. Organic traffic can be more expensive and time-consuming than paid traffic, but it can also be more effective.

Finally, another great way to find leads is through social media. By building a presence on social media and engaging with your prospective customers, you can bring in leads that are already interested in what you have to offer. Social media can be inexpensive and relatively easy to use, making it a great way to reach prospective customers.

Qualifying: Determining whether or not they are a good fit for your product or service

When determining whether or not a prospect is a good fit for your product or service, it's important to qualify them properly. This means assessing their needs and determining whether or not your company can provide a solution that meets those needs.

Sales reps would make sure that they have qualified leads by asking particular questions. In a funnel, we can do that by mentioning particular attributes of the target customers.

For example, "this service is for people who would rather spend money than time to get to the first page of Google", or, "This is for serious entrepreneurs who will do whatever they need to do to achieve success".

Presenting: Showing them what you have to offer

Start by explaining what your product or service is. Be sure to include the benefits that the customer will receive by using your product or service. If you have case studies or testimonials, be sure to share those as well.

Make sure that you are clear about what you are offering and how the customer can take advantage of your offer. Paint a picture for them of what their life could be like if they use your product or service.

Be sure to answer any questions the prospect may have and always follow up with them after the meeting. Building a relationship with the prospect is key to making a sale.

Closing: Convincing them to buy

When it comes to convincing someone to buy something, you need to be able to present the offer in a way that is both professional and appealing. In the case of a sales funnel, you need to show the prospect just how this tool can benefit their business.

You need to point out the scenario of what life will be like without it, and how easy it would be to gain all these benefits and wave goodbye to all the problems.

You can also offer them bonuses to stack up the value of the offer, by adding other products or services to make the offering more complete.

When people say "no brainer" they mean that with the offer and the bonuses you should have made it very hard for the prospect to find a reason to say "no".

Delivering: Sending them their purchase and making sure they're satisfied

When a customer buys a product through your sales funnel, it's your responsibility to ensure that they are satisfied with their purchase. This means sending them to the appropriate purchase page and making sure that they receive their order without any problems. It's also important to follow up with the customer after they make their purchase to make sure that they are happy with the product and the buying experience. By taking care of your customers, you'll make sure that they are more likely to return in the future and recommend your business to others.

In addition to the promised bonuses, you could also send them some unannounced bonuses, so they feel particularly appreciated, and also recognize the value that you can offer.

Upselling/Cross-selling: Offering them complementary products or services

When someone purchases a product through your sales funnel, it's a great opportunity to offer them complementary products or services. This is known as upselling or cross-selling, and it can be a great way to boost your profits by increasing the average purchase amount for each customer.

There are a few different ways to go about upselling and cross-selling, and the best approach will depend on the products or services that you're selling. One common strategy is to use a related product as an upsell. For example, if someone buys a piece of software, you might offer them a related book or course as a cross-sell.

Upsell / Cross Sell Approaches

Another approach is to focus on services rather than products. For instance, you might offer a discounted rate for your next consultation when someone purchases a package of consulting sessions. Or, you could offer a free month of service when someone signs up for an annual subscription.

If your initial offer sells for $7, and you offer an upsell to a $37 product, and then offered another upsell of a "done for you" service at $97, then these upsells and cross-selling allow you massively increase your profits.

If for example you paid $1 for each of the 1000 qualified leads (total of $1K) and you got 2% to purchase (20 buyers) and 50% of those buyers bought your upsell, and then another 60% of those bought the second DFY upsell (cos its really good), you'd get:

20 * $7 = $140 (without the upsell, congratulations, you made a loss)

10 * $37 = $370, total = $510 (over half way there...)

6 * $97 = $582, total = $1,092 ( congratulations, you got 1000 leads and 20 buyers for free!)

With this example, you'd then go about finding ways to make the funnel more effective and increase the number of sales, and upsells percentage-wise.

Retention: Making sure they come back and buy from you again

Creating a funnel for your buyers is a great way to ensure they continue to buy from you.

By keeping them engaged and interested in your products, you can keep them coming back for more.

The key to retention is making sure they are happy with what they bought and that they find value in it.

You can do this by providing excellent customer service, offering discounts and bonuses for Loyalty Members, and keeping your products up to date and interesting.

And above all, keep solving their problems with massive perceived value to them.

If the customer is interested in what the business has to offer, they may then be converted into a paying customer.

However, all social media funnels follow the same basic steps of attracting, engaging, and converting prospects.
